2008 Movie #140 - Young People Fucking

For the first time ever in this blog, I just completely forgot to review a movie. I saw this one a couple of months ago, made a mental note that I had to write a review for it, and then didn’t. I just remembered last night that I had to do it. So although I saw this one a while ago, here it is.

This is a Canadian movie so right there that should set off a whole bunch of fucking warning signals. But then, it has that title. We were all so pissed off this summer when our theatre didn’t get this movie but instead it went to the other theatre in the city that’s part of the same chain. Apparently none of the employees were allowed to say the uncensored name, but where is the fun in that? We all pretty much accepted that there was no way this movie could ever live up to the hype of that awesome name. Shockingly, it’s pretty good, especially when you factor in the Canadian-ness. Now remember I saw this a while ago so the details are going to be very vague and sketchy.

The plot is pretty simple. It follows I think 4, but maybe 5, stories all about people who are engaged in sex in some form. They’re young people…and they’re fucking. Hence the genius of that title. The stories are all pretty good and while none of them are flat out bad, there are some that are of course more interesting than others. Personally I didn’t care about the Ex’s or the new couple. The roommates and the married couple I thought were the 2 best. The best friends were also really good.

The acting is good, with a lot of “where do I know them from” faces throughout. The dialogue is quick and funny and filthy as all hell. There are obviously a lot of sex jokes in this movie and some of them are just downright fucking nuts. It could make for some awkward watching. Then again if you’re watching a movie called Young People Fucking with your children or parents, then maybe you should be hit by more busses and trucks.

Call this one a very pleasant surprise. My memory of it is a little fuzzy now and it makes me want to watch it again to remember more. In fact why haven’t I watched this again? Fuck this, I’m gonna go watch it again.
